Looking forward to an upcoming trip to Sudan and Damar City to find henna. Of course adding what's called 'black rock' or suspending wet applied henna over smoke to blacken it is not something I advocate, the designs of Sudan are blood and very beautiful. I am a frim believer in safe organic henna. Natural once cure over a two day period is a bright red to deep mahogany color.

  it is a challenge indeed to get the women of Upper Egypt to use natural henna tattoos and not the black that they are used to. One successful trick I have found is to wear the natural stain Mehndi and have a fresh supply of henna cones an hand to give as gifts! It works!  As a lot of you know there are many dangers attached to using anything in henna to make it stain black.the main ingredient to attain this is a potentially harmful chemicals called PPD. So remember when you have your henna done elect to use natural and don't take a chance.

In defense of the customs in Egypt however, many have used the way of adding black rock to their henna and have no problems. When I warn them about this they were quite surprised and said they have done this a longtime here without any problems. It's hard to break with tradition. Peace
